The Case for Prototyping

Fixing a wireframe takes hours. Fixing built code takes weeks.

The cost of a design change multiplies at every stage of development. The earlier you catch problems, the cheaper they are to fix.

Stage Where the issue is caught Relative cost to fix
Concept / Idea In your head or a conversation ₦0
Wireframe On paper or in Figma ₦0 – ₦5,000
Prototype Clickable but not coded ₦5,000 – ₦20,000
Development (frontend) Coded but not connected ₦80,000 – ₦300,000
Development (backend) Fully integrated ₦300,000 – ₦1,000,000+
Live Product Already shipped to users Cost + brand damage

Cost estimates are indicative based on typical project rework costs. The message is the direction, not the exact number.

What prototyping protects you from
  • Logic errors in user flows Dead ends, missing states and broken journeys that only become obvious when you try to click through them.
  • Stakeholder misalignment Everyone imagines the product differently in their head. A prototype gives everyone the same picture to react to.
  • Scope creep from vague specs Wireframes and prototypes force specificity, reducing "can we just add..." conversations mid-build.
  • Building the wrong thing User testing on a prototype before build is the cheapest way to confirm product-market fit before spending millions.
Fidelity Levels

Low-fi, mid-fi or high-fi, which do you need?

Different stages of a project call for different levels of fidelity. We'll advise the right level for your situation.

Low-Fidelity

Sketch Wireframes

Structure-only layout

Grey-box layouts that define structure, hierarchy and navigation, no colours, no styling. Fast to produce, fast to change. Ideal for early-stage concept alignment.

Use when: You're in the concept or planning phase and need to test ideas quickly without committing to a visual direction.
Mid-Fidelity

Annotated Wireframes

Structure + annotations

Detailed wireframes with component labels, interaction notes and content specifications, the definitive brief document for developers or UI designers.

Use when: You're handing off to developers or briefing a UI designer and need a precise, unambiguous specification of every screen.
High-Fidelity

Interactive Prototype

Clickable + visual

A fully clickable, visually polished prototype that looks and feels like the real product, used for user testing, investor demos and stakeholder approvals.

Use when: You need to test with real users, present to investors, or get final approval from stakeholders before committing to full development.

Deliverables

What every project delivers

Every engagement comes with structured, shareable deliverables, not just Figma files.

User Flow Diagrams

Every screen, state, and decision point mapped in Miro or Figma, covering happy paths, error states and edge cases before a wireframe is drawn.

Wireframe Screens

Lo-fi or mid-fi wireframes in Figma, every page, every state, every empty state and every error, structured and labelled for review or handoff.

Clickable Prototype

A shareable Figma prototype link, click through the full user journey, test navigation and transitions, and share with anyone via URL, no Figma account needed.

Annotation Document

A written specification for each screen, interaction notes, content placeholders, API triggers, validation rules and component behaviour descriptions.

Testing Report (optional)

If user testing is included, a structured findings report with task completion rates, friction points, and a prioritised list of changes to make before build.

Walkthrough Session

A video call where we walk through every screen and flow with your team, so everyone understands the logic, edge cases and rationale behind design decisions.

How a wireframing project works

1

Brief & Scope

We understand your product, users, key flows and goals, and agree on screens, fidelity level and timeline.

2

Flow Mapping

We map every user flow, screen and state, identifying gaps, edge cases and navigation logic before wireframing begins.

3

Wireframe & Prototype

We wireframe all screens, link them into a clickable prototype, and annotate key interactions, presented for review and revision.

4

Handover

Figma files, prototype link and annotation document delivered with a walkthrough session, ready for testing, pitching or development.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about wireframes, prototypes, fidelity levels and timelines.

A wireframe is a static layout, it shows what goes where on a screen but doesn't click through. A prototype is an interactive version, you can navigate between screens, simulate flows and experience the product. Wireframes are for planning and alignment; prototypes are for testing and pitching.

Annotated mid-fi wireframes are often enough for developers, they show layout, component behaviour, content and interaction rules without the overhead of a full interactive prototype. If your product has complex flows or multiple user roles, adding a prototype reduces developer back-and-forth significantly. We'll advise the right level for your situation.

Concept wireframes (up to 15 screens) typically take 5–7 business days. Interactive prototypes (up to 30 screens) take 1.5–3 weeks. Full product specs (60+ screens) take 4–6 weeks. Timeline depends on how quickly you review and approve at each stage.

Yes, and we recommend it. We can set up unmoderated usability tests using Maze so real users from your target audience click through the prototype. You get task completion rates, heatmaps and drop-off data. This is far cheaper than discovering the same problems after your developers have built it.

Wireframing and prototyping can be scoped as a standalone phase, or as the first phase of a full UI/UX engagement. If you already know you need full high-fidelity UI design, see our UI/UX Design, Website Design, or Mobile App Design pages, wireframing is included in those packages.

Yes. Figma prototype links are shareable via URL, anyone with the link can click through the prototype in their browser without needing a Figma account. This makes it easy to share with investors, stakeholders, user testers or your development team.
